The Barry Lopez Foundation for Art & Environment collaborates with contemporary artists on fine art exhibitions addressing climate change and our relationship with the planet in the twenty-first century, aspiring to create projects that convey the same intensity and emotional resonance we discover when in the landscape ourselves. By forgoing our own dedicated exhibition space, the Foundation’s operating model was designed to be nimble and efficient, minimizing staffing and operating costs in order to direct our resources toward the support of artists and partner institutions while reaching a broad, national audience.
The Barry Lopez Foundation also awards Artist Fellowships to support the creation of new work that aligns with our mission and exhibition program. In 2026, the Foundation launched an annual Writing Fellowship with the Ucross Foundation in Wyoming. Fellowships are awarded by invitation and selected by the Foundation Board and members of the Advisory Committee. See EXHIBITIONS and FELLOWSHIPS for further information.Â
